The big movie buff that I am, I shall start by listing some of my all-time favourite movies … these are the movies which I would love to take along, if at all I am stranded somewhere on a remote island

Ok, let me put it this way, these are my “All time Top-5 favourite (mostly comedy) Indian movies”

1. SHOLAY
The original “Sholay” made by Ramesh Sippy. I could watch this movie any number of times over & over again. It has everything a good movie should have. “Isme Action hai, Drama hai, Comedy hai, Tragedy hai”
Great dialogues, super hit songs, some of the most famous characters to have appeared in Hindi movies (Basanti, Gabbar, Jailor, Soorma Bhopali, Kaalia, Saambha … the list is endless), a brilliant star cast.

2. JAANE BHI DO YAARON
I can see this movie as many times too. One of the best ever comedy films to be made in Hindi.
And, I am sure, no one can ever forget the super-hilarious “Mahabharat” scene that forms the climax.

The wonderful talent of Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Satish Kaushik, Bhakti Barve, Satish Shah, Rajesh Puri … this along with a super script added to form this gem of a movie.

3. AUTOGRAPH (Tamil)
A brilliantly movie, made by Cheran, taking us through the life of a man — from his childhood in a small village to how he made it big in the big, crowded city. Also showing all the loves & crushes he had in his life. All this told against the backdrop of the protagonist going around to invite each & every person he knew in his life, to his wedding.

4. ANDAZ APNA APNA
One of those movies which needs to be seen purely for the slapstick kind of comedy. No matter how many times you see it, it will still make you laugh. Aamir Khan lead the way in this film, while the cast also included Ajit (Lion-fame)’s son, Paresh Rawal, Viju Khote.

5. GOLMAAL
The wonderful Amol Palekar, in one of his funny movies about the middle class common man (Choti Si Baat). Somehow I like this the best of all.
And of course, it had the presense of Utpal Dutt to add to its shine.
And, like in all Hrishikesh Mukherjee films, you always have some superstar special appearances, and here it was Amitabh Bachchan.
