RANDOM SONGS

Heres another of my all time favourite songs, which again landed in my media player playlist – the song “Tujhse Naaraz Nahi Zindagi…” from the Hindi movie ‘MASOOM’ (1983)

The song has been wonderfully rendered by Anup Ghoshal, to music composed by the great maestro, R. D. Burman.
And again, Gulzar’s lyrics are brilliant – not that a chota mota fella like me, with my limited knowledge of good Hindi, needs to certify Gulzarji’s work.

‘MASOOM'(1983) is a wonderful movie, directed by Shekar Kapur – the same Shekar Kapur who later gave us local & global hits like MR.INDIA, BANDIT QUEEN, ELIZABETH. ( & the same Shekar Kapur whose face became known to thousands of Indians after he was seen in an ad for Digjam suitings – in the old days of Doordarshan, before Cable TV, Star TV, Sun TV,MTV, FTV)

And yes, ‘Masoom’ is the same movie that introduced two budding actors to the world – Urmila Matondkar & Jugal Hansraj. Again, anybody who loved watching Chitrahaar on DD some time ago, would have seen the “Ladki ki Kaati” song atleast once. It was one of the famous “children songs” during my childhood 🙂

Tujhse Naraaz Nahin Zindagi

Tujhse Naaraaz nahi Zindagi, Hairaan hoon main
O Hairaan hoon main
Tere Masoom sawaalon se Pareshaan hoon main
O Pareshaan hoon main

Jeene ke liye sochaa hi nahi, Dard sambhalne honge
Muskurayen to, muskuraane ke karz utaarne honge
Muskuraoon Kabhi to lagta hai
Jaise honthon pe Karz rakhaa hai
Tujhse …

Aaj agar bhar aayee hain, Boondein baras jaayengi
Kal kya patha inke liye Aankhen taras jaayengi
Jaane kab gum hua, Kahaan khoya
Ek aansoo chupaake rakhaa tha
Tujhse …

Zindagi tere gham ne hamein rishte naye samjhaaye
Mile jo hamein Dhoop mein mile chhaon ke thande saaye
O Tujhse …

To listen to this song, you could go here to musicindiaonline and look for the song sung by Anup Ghoshal. I do like the female version of the same song, sung by the greatest of all, Lata Mangeshkar. But I just felt that, in this case, the male version has more ‘soul-touching’ capability.

By the way, have you seen this old & nice movie ?  Did you like it ? What do you feel about this song ?

Another ‘Song-post’ … this song, Dhadkan zara ruk gayi hai, was playing a little earlier in my headphones, as I was busy trying to tick off items from my office ‘to-do’ list.

Its a fabulous song … the music and the lyrics are fantastic … it has been on my fav-songs list since a long time. The words are by Mangesh Kulkarni. I do not know of him doing lyrics for any other Hindi movies, and don’t know if he has worked on any Marathi movies or any other albums. But for this song, Mangesh Kulkarni has written a great simple song, with a kind of Gulzar-esque touch to it.
And of course, the song has been sung by one of my all time favourite singers, Suresh Wadkar. I always feel that Hindi movies have not done justice to his great voice & talent.

The song is from the Hindi movie ‘PRAHAAR‘, directed by Nana Patekar. The movie on the whole was ok. I remember enjoying the first half, and I liked the simple look the movie had given to both Dimple Kapadia, and to the superstar-actress of then, Madhuri Dixit.

Dhadkan zara ruk gayi hai

Dhadkan zara ruk gayi hai, kahin Zindagi bah rahi hai
Palkon mein Yaadon ki Doli, Bheetar Khushi has rahi hai
Ye Khushi tum ho, tum hi tum meri jaanam, karu aitbaar

Chehron ke mele me Chehre the gum
Ek chehra tha main, Ek chehra the tum
Jaane kya tum ne de diya,
Mujhko jahaan mil gaya

Hothon par baat rahe, baaton mein sur bahe
Suron mein geet wahin, tumhari hi baat kahe
Mitt jaoo Sapnon ke Aagosh mein
Bhig jaoo Yaadon ki Bauchhaar mein

Milte hi aankhon ne rishta pehchana,
Ehsaas seene me saanson ne jaana
Chupke se pyar choo gaya,
Dila ke Ek Janam naya

Dhadkan zara ruk gayi hai, kahin Zindagi bah rahi hai
Palkon mein Yaadon ki Dolee, Bheetar Khushi has rahi hai
Ye Khushi tum ho, tum hi tum meri jaanam, karu aitbaar

Khuda se Mannat …”  –  have you listened to this song ? Meaningful lyrics … I love this song.

During my school days, when I used to watch the old Bollywood movies & their songs, when Shammi Kapoor was Yahoo-ing down snow covered slopes, the only place I wanted to visit was Kashmir. To me, Kashmir seemed the most beautiful place on this planet. I suppose it still is the most beautiful place … but since many years, not many tourists are willing to visit it.

Recently, I watched a Malayalam movie ‘Keerthi Chakra’ – where the story basically is about the protagonist being a part of the Indian Army contingent fighting in Kashmir.
The below Hindi song is from this Malayalam movie, sung beautifully by Kailash Kher.

Just listening to this song gives me the same feeling that I felt when I watched it … of floating on the Dal Lake in a small boat, with the snow-capped peaks towering all around. It is is a touching song, showing the emotion of the people who long for the old & peaceful Kashmir.

Khuda se Mannat hai meri
Lauta de Jannat woh meri !
Woh Aman, woh chaman ka nazaara
O Khudaya, lauta de Kashmir doobara !
Meri rooh ki tasveer … mera Kashmir
O Khudaya, lauta de Kashmir doobara !

Charon taraf to pehle sukoon hi Sukoon tha
Awam ko Watan se Ishq ka Junoon tha
Ab Yahan qatl hai, ab Wahan khoon hai
Meri aulad mere Kashmir se mehroom hai, mehroom hai

Mera Kashmir savaanra kyon,
Jab isko yoon Ujadna tha
Khushnuma manzar pe khanjar kyon chalaya
O Khudaya, lauta de Kashmir doobara !
Meri Rooh ki Tasveer … mera Kashmir
O Khudaya, lauta de Kashmir doobara !

Chaahe Kafan ka joda mujhko pehna de Tu
Mere Bacche ko woh Jannat, woh Kashmir dikha de Tu
Woh mera Gulistan ban gaya shamshaan
Yahan maut ki dehleez pe khada hai har Insaan

Tamanna hai guzaarish hai, Dard-e-dil ki khwahish hai
Doobti kashti ko dila de Tu kinara
Woh Aman, woh chaman ka nazaara
O Khudaya, lauta de Kashmir doobara !
O Khudaya, lauta de Kashmir doobara !
Meraa Kashmiiir … Merra Kashmiir !
Merraa Kashmiiir … Merraaa Kaashmeeeer !

If you would like to listen, go here – musicindiaonline & check out the song titled ‘Gudase Mannathu‘, sung by Kailash Kher.

As some very wise man had said long ago …

Agar zameen pe jannat hai, to wo yahin hai, yahin hai, yahin hai ” (If there is heaven on earth, it is on this land, it is here, it is right here)

I sure hope to be able to visit Kashmir some day soon, and stay a few days in a house boat on the Dal lake
